21% of the grocery market across the UK.
According to research by analysts at IGD, the convenience sector was worth £37.5bn out of a total grocery market of £179bn in 2017. This figure is expected to grow by 11.7% over the next 5 years to £42bn as shopping habits are changing, with consumers increasingly turning their backs on the weekly shopping trip in favour of more frequent top-up shops.
With major supermarkets declaring their aim to reduce the cost of all products – both branded and own brand – to their customers by 10%, the growing independent retailers are becoming increasingly vital for manufacturers.
